On a clear day as the sun made the ocean waves dazzle and glimmer, the Garlean empire began its invasion of Valnain. The Empire's newly improved technology and weaponry left the city unprepared and quickly overrun. They set buildings ablaze and burned ships where they floated in the docks. A young Bosco and his family were merchants, travelers who resided in the city during their downtime. Bosco was outside when it began. The sight of the fury and fireballs launched overhead left him doubled over with the migraine of his life. When Bosco regained his composure, he realized the world was aflame around him. Straight ahead sat his house, the roof engulfed in flames. He couldn’t see - but he could hear - people inside. Bosco stumbled forward which turned into a dash towards home. He pushed his way inside. The rush of fresh air fed the fire into a frenzy. The last thing Bosco remembered was bringing his arms up to protect his face from a haze of debris.
What felt like a few moments later, Bosco awoke on the deck of a ship, and his head pounded even harder than before. He was flat on his back. He coughed and sputtered as he tried to lean up. The people above him looked as if they’d just seen a ghost. Perhaps they had. He couldn’t get answers on what happened - the chaos was too much for people to comprehend. One thing was certain: he had no home to return to.From then on, the sea was the only life Bosco ever knew. Luckily, freight shipping was still highly desired work, so he never wanted for much as he continued to grow into an adult. The ships took him all over the world, where he mingled with all walks of life. Once, another sailor taught him how to pick locks, and the very first thing Bosco did was pick his way into the cargo hold. He learned it was a safe, quiet place to hide away in, and on many ships he'd spend days lost in the piles of merchandise, sometimes simply falling asleep.
While docked ashore in Eorzea, Bosco ran into a weathered Viera who knocked him off his feet. The Viera skidded to a stop and immediately turned back to help Bosco back up. Wordlessly, the Viera kept running, and Bosco noticed he was pursuing a cloaked figure. Quiet as a mouse, Bosco curiously treaded behind them. He tracked them all the way to a corner of town, where he arrived just in time to witness the Viera end the figure's life. When all was calm, to Bosco’s shock, the Viera turned directly to where he hid. It was then he made offer to Bosco, where if he wanted, he could put his skills to use to help weaken the Empire. The concept made him ache in a way he never had before. Without a second thought, he accepted.

→ On Orion Bysnoe and Head Hunting

“At this point, Orion’s gotta be my best friend. Thick and thin, as they say. I do the stealth, he always comes in for the final blow. We make a good team. And he sure has passed a lotta knowledge onto me… General knowledge too, like cooking. Sometimes we sit around and do music together too. I’m happy we ran into each other, after that shipwreck I was in and all.”

→ On the Shipwreck

“The shipwreck me and Achilles were caught in was pretty damn bad. Not sure if he’ll ever talk about it himself. Seas were just too stormy, not a damn thing to be done except not be sailing there in the first place. The whole ship went down. I like to think I saved his life that night. Rumor has it a sea monster stirred it up… With everything I’ve seen since, I’d’ve believed it. Achilles stopped working the decks after that, and I didn’t see him for years ‘til me and Orion found him half dead in the snow.”

→ On Horses

“My father was probably the best veterinarian in Valnain. I’d assume so, based on how many people visited our stable. Folks brought horses, sheep, sometimes cattle… If it had a hoof my dad could’ve taken care of it. He grew up on the Steppe and learned everything there. Then he met my ma and they settled down in Valnain. That’s where I lived well, until… Oh, the horses, right. These days I keep mine stabled in Revenant’s Toll, I visit as often as I can and I even take ‘er with me when travels are safe enough.”

→ On Being a Deckhand

“After… After Valnain and I got split up from my family, I started working on ships to make some gil. It was hard work but easy to come by. Always someone wanting something shipped somewhere as soon as possible…”

→ On Achilles Knight

“That kit was scrawny first I seen him working the boat decks. Months on the sea wasn’t gonna help. I stole extra bread and soup for him, though I wasn’t sure if he liked me at first. He seemed a bit lonely. He had started to open up a bit, but then the shipwreck split us up. Good to see him fairing better lately. He’s always a dependable friend.”

→ On “found him half dead in the snow”

“Hah, I guess Achilles really doesn’t talk about these things. Orion had a mission out up in Ishgard, we were traveling there together through the thickest blizzard I’d ever seen. Couldn’t shake the cold out of my ass. Anyways, we saw a dark lump in the snow. We stumbled up upon it to see Achilles a bloody mess. He wasn’t even conscious at the time. With the snow around him like that, he's awful lucky he’s got that thick pelt of fur on him. When he woke he mumbled something about a temple knight… We cut our mission short and took him back south so he could heal. He joined us for a bit after that.”

→ On Larceny

“Missions sometimes need more of a… silent touch. That’s where I come in. In and out without a noise, without anyone realizing. I’ve taken documents, jewelry, even planted incriminating evidence to be found by others…I keep some cool stuff, usually end up giving away stuff we don’t need… Well.. Can’t help but pick a few pockets here and there too. Never know what you’re gonna find.”

→ On Soul Crystals and Dark Knight

“A’ve never been good with those… job stones… One day I was running around late for a job. I damn near tripped over a box Achilles left laying out, the thing spilled all over the floor. I guess he kept a spare crystal in there, didn't have a clue about it 'til I picked it up and it started glowing like fire. Guess it chose me. I never realized I had that much worth protecting.”

→ On Odysseus and Lemon-Chan

“I first ran into them while I was in Ul’dah. Them and those Scions were doing a lot to stir up Garlean movements, and Orion wanted to be right on top of it. Me, hah, I’m just the guy who’s always in the right place at the right time… Odysseus picked me out from the crowd - not by choice mind you - one of them echo vision things hit him. Showed him how my own echo awakened. I never even realized, but everything made a lotta sense after that. He convinced me to travel with them, he practically begged. They’re quite a duo, I mean, we’re quite a trio now.”

→ On the Echo

“My echo lets me withstand fire. I ain’t hit with those memory visions very often. But I’ve figured I can sort of use it to control flames. Wield weapons that are burning hot. Or just tend the campfire. I can’t seem to produce fire itself… but Odysseus seems intent that I can with some magic. A’ve never been good at that stuff though. He just always sees the best in people.”

→ On Lemon-Chan

“She… scares me. Often. I would trust her with my life. She hasn’t said so, but I think she likes hearing my stories about Auri folk and what my life was like back before, in Dalmasca, and when we’d travel to the Steppe. There’s always something soft about her expression…”

→ Ferro Rod

A rod with a handle made of conductive metal, that when struck, produces enough sparks to start a fire.

→ Lockpicks

A small bundle of lockpicks, suitable for any sort of lock.

→ Dark Knight Soul Stone

A Dark Knight soul stone that Achilles had in his possession after receiving it from Fray. When Bosco bumped into it by accident, it lit up and bonded with him.
